Oracle Expands the UK's Most Comprehensive Cloud Portfolio

Introduction of new Platform-as-a-Service and Infrastructure-as-a-Service capabilities provide customers with complete set of Cloud capabilities

READING, United Kingdom, Feb. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle today expanded on its cloud leadership in the UK with the introduction of new Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) technologies to be hosted in its Slough data centre. The range of new services include Oracle Database Cloud Service, Oracle Dedicated Compute Cloud Service, Oracle Big Data Cloud Service and Oracle Exadata Cloud Service. The facility currently serves over 500 UK and global customers with Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offerings tailored for private corporations and public sector customers.

The addition of PaaS significantly enhances the services and technologies Oracle is able to offer its customers to help them meet mission critical business objectives. For example, customers will now be able to:

-- Rapidly develop, test, and launch applications at low cost
-- Achieve greater agility for their businesses without compromising
-- Unleash the power of Hadoop delivered as a secure, automated service
that can be fully integrated with existing enterprise data in Oracle
-- Access a rapidly provisioned virtual compute environment to run
applications at scale on the Oracle Cloud.

Oracle has 19 data centres around the world powering all layers of the Oracle Cloud - Software as a Service, Platform as a Service and Infrastructure as a Service. Last week Oracle further announced its intent to open a new Cloud data centre in Abu Dhabi to keep pace with growing customer demand for Oracle's complete cloud portfolio. The new Abu Dhabi data centre will enable Oracle to better deliver high performance Cloud computing services to customers throughout the United Arabic Emirates.

Thomas Kurian, President, Oracle, said:

"CIOs are facing increased pressure to balance operational responsibilities with rising expectations all under greater scrutiny from the boardroom. Much of their future success is dependent on quickly exploiting new digital innovations and that is where cloud plays a huge part. We have introduced PaaS capabilities into the UK datacentre to ensure Oracle continues to help customers maximize existing technologies and new innovations and allow CIOs to set the agenda for the future of their organizations."

Iain Patterson, CEO, Common Technology Services, Government Digital Service said:

"I am delighted with the investments Oracle is making in this UK datacentre. With several government bodies already using services from this facility, the expansion provides greater capabilities and further choice and meets additional important Public Sector requirements. Government is committed to a cloud first policy and significant supplier investments, such as this, support our strategic ambition and will ultimately provide better value and better services to the taxpayer."
