Being the permanent venue of CAEXPO since 2004, Nanning has become an important channel to deepen the coorperation between China and ASEAN countries, as well as to connect countries along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Route.

At present, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia have set up their respective consulates in Nanning and 77 ASEAN companies had invested over one billion US dollars in Nanning by 2014.

Nanning has become a transportation junction with high-speed rail connecting to 13 provinces and municipalities in China.

Cross-border retail e-commerce has begun after Nanning was chosen as the cross-border trade e-commerce service pilot city in China in August 2014.

The China-ASEAN Information Harbor Forum inaugurated on September 13 in Nanning and the attendees had profound talks and exchanges on the development of cross-border e-commerce.

Nanning has planned a zone with an area of 33 km(2) in Wuxiang New District as the site of the China-ASEAN Information Harbor Nanning Base, which will help in building Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road as well as creating benefit for both China and ASEAN people.
